[231] !Born Dutchess Co.; probably oldest child. Settled in KY about 1786 near Elks
Creek with brothers Christopher and Daniel. Listed in DAR Patriot Index page
642, as a private from NY, which is consistant with the father being in the
Wyoming Valley, PA, as family was in the process of homesteading from Dutchess
Co, NY to Wyoming Valley, PA.
"Aug. 24, 1991
"Iris WINKLER (KY research)
"your James Stark died in Shelby Co., Ky. between October 1820 amd May 1820. I
believe he probably died after Oct. 8,1820 and before Nov. court 1820 as
Phillip W. Taylor and Fredric Dayhoff swore to James Starks act and deed.(Deed
book R. Page 163.)
If you will note on the Sale Bill enclosed, Will Book 5, page 132-135, you
will see the names of James' sons, AAron, Daniel, Adin, Elijah and sons in
laws, John Kester and John Gunderman as purchasers. There is also an Ann Stark
and Nancy Stark as purchasing.
Since, however, there is a private James Stark in Captain Abner Howell's
Washington County Company in the same Regiment with Jonathon Harned who also
emigrated to the Boston, Ky. area, the best bet is that he was in the
Washington County Regiment. Note also there is also a James Stark that came
from Virginia Regiment." (from C E Winkler)
