Louisville, KY, Newspaper article, with picture, reads: James L. Stark, 72,
known for his baseball, railroad and civic activities, died at 2 a.m. yesterday
at his home, 826 S. Third, after a long illness. Stark helped organize the
Taxpayers League of Kentucky in 1929 and served as its secretary. He was
president of the Retired Railroad Employees and the Louisville Baseball
Veterans Association.
Former baggagemaster at the L. & N. Railroad Company, Stark was instrumental in
beginning the first Amateur Baseball Association here, the L. & N. Veterans
Club, the Four Transportation Brotherhoods and the Fraternal Day Association.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Elizaeth Strickler Stark; daughter, Mrs. Nell S.
Kruse; brother, A. L. Stark, and sisters, Mrs. Edward Crowe, Misses Kate and
Etta Stark, all three of Collinsville, Ill. Services will be at 2 p.m.
tomorrow at Maas' Chapel. Burial will be in Elizabethtown.
