!MARRIAGE: 23 Aug 1982 found at Trinity Lutheran Church, 8th & Soulard, St.
Louis, MO the following marriage: "Johann Friedrich GERDING from Finne by
Osnabrueck, Hanover, married Louise Dorothea Margarethe PENNINGROTH of
Petershagen, Prus. on 17 Jun 1841 in the parsonage." From an article "Among Our
Founding Fathers" in Concordia Historical Institute Quarterly, vol 62.1, a
history of Trinity Lutheran Chuirch, said they organized the church in the
spring of 1839, but had to worship in the basement of Christ Church Cathedral
until they built the first church in 1842. The pastor of Trinity congregation
was Pastor C.F. W. Walther, so was probably the pastor who performed the
marriage.

!When I was in Washington, D.C., I got copies of the original papers of "Private
Entry, No. 6812, Land Office, at Kaskaskia, January 6, 1839," when John
Frederick Gerding purchased the South East quarter of North west quarter of
Section No. thirty-five in Township NO. one South of Range No. five west
containing Forty acres at the rate of one dollar and 25 cents per acre,
amounting Fifty dollars, for which the said John Frederick Gerding has made
payment in full. There is also a paper that he swore that the purchase of this
land from the United States was for his personal use only and was signed by
him on the 4th of January 1839. He later bought another 40 acres nearby but
not adjacent. He cleared this land and farmed it.

I have pictures of the inside of the St. Salvatore Lutheran Church in Venedy,
