!DEATH-CEMETERY: Given to me by grandson, Max H. James, and his wife, Doris V
Danks, who lived in Effingham, IL. Max Herman and wife Anna are buried in
South Hill Cemetery, Vandalia, Fayette, IL. I made a trip to the cemetery on
Aug 25, 1983, and have pictures of the tombstones. Mr. & Mrs. James said he
died in East St. Louis, St. Clair, IL. Records at the cemetery said he was
a resident of Canton, IL at the time of death.
[1247]
!OCCUPATION: He was a cigarmaker, (segarmaker) , by trade. He owned a cigar
store in Vandalia, IL, which my husband remembered going to when he was a
child, 9 or 10 years old. He said there was a big Indian figure in front of the
store.

!COMMENT: A lady who worked at Valley Mineral Products with me (didn't tell me
until we went to the funeral home when her mother died) was related to them.
She said her mother was a Herman--or Drenkhahn who married a Herman - and her
father was either a brother or brother-in-law of Max. While we were at the
funeral home, Darius Drenkhahn & wife, Earl Drenkhan & wife were there from
Collinsville and Glen & I knew all ot them. Glen knew they were "shirttail"
relations.
