!BIOGRAPHY: "History of Madison Co, IL" publ by W.P. Brink & Co, 1882. He was
the son of Henry Gonterman, a native of Germany, b in MD, 27 Mar 1764 (year
and place does not agree with info I had). He moved w/parents to Shelby Co, KY
and married Hannah Stark, dau of Jonathon Stark. They moved to Christion Co,
KY, where ten children were born to them. They emigrated from KY to Madison
Co, IL, and landed in fall of 1816, located on section 20, and began
improvements. Shortly after coming, he built on his place a horse-mill that
was operated for many years.
