Lutheran Church, Collinsville, IL. (copy on file). Sponsors were: Aug. GERDING
(Father's brother), Fried. ERNST (Father's brother-in-law), and Christine
KRAMER (Mother's step-sister), signed by paster Fried. Ottmann, Ev. Luth.
Pastor. (Deborah GERDING Greaves has the original of this certificate, Marriage
license, Confirmation certificate and his diploma from St. Louis College of
Pharmacy, dated 22 Apr 1908.) Copies in my file. The Marriage license shows
that Walter T. Gerding of Collinsville, IL, married Virgie B. Beattie of West
Frankfort, IL 4 MaY 1915 in Collinsville, Il, by H.A. Klein, Pastor, and
Witnesses were Louis Gerding and Kittie Bowden. "Walter Theodore Gerding,
geboren den 13 Januar 1887 confirmet den 31 Maerz 1901 in der ev. luth. Kirche
zum heil Kreinz in Collinsville, Madison Co, Illinois."
Note that the christening and confirmation certificates are in German. Both
are from the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Collinsville, IL.

!EDUCATION: Attended Holy Cross Lutheran School thru 8th grade, Collinsville
Township High School 4 years, and then attended and got his degree from St.
Louis Pharmacy College, 22 Apr 1908.

!OCCUPATION: Druggist in his father's drug store, The City Drug Store which
later became The Gerding Drug Store, Collinsville, IL. After the death of his
father he and his two brothers, Albert who was also a graduate of St. Louis
College of Pharmacy, and the youngest brother, Louis.

!MILITARY: No military service due to hip injury as a child, which necessitated
his use of a cane for the rest of his life.
